Work Experience

Preparing for the Modern Workplace

Our careers programme is designed to prepare students for their future by providing high-quality, meaningful opportunities for students to engage with the world of work.  In line with the latest statutory guidance and The Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC) framework, we offer a progressive experience that helps students develop essential skills, build confidence and make informed decisions about their next steps.

From September 2026 we are working towards offering our students two weeks of meaningful, high-quality experiences (including trips and in-school activities) across Key Stages 3 and 4 (Year 7-11).

Work Shadowing

Students in Year 8 (in November) and Year 9 (in March) undertake a day’s Work Shadowing placement.  Work Shadowing is an opportunity for students to go to work for the day with a parent/carer, family friend or contact and get a real-life insight into the world of work.

The objective of Work Shadowing is for students to understand business schedules and observe a range of business activities in order to link their learning in a broader context. Work shadowing encourages students to appreciate the distance people travel to work, the inter-relationships formed in a business environment and the variety of skills used in the workplace.

Work Experience

Students in Year 10 (in June) and Year 12 (in July) undertake a week’s Work Experience.

Work Experience gives students the chance to learn about what type of job they might enjoy, and also to develop their CV; it can be one of the most transformational experiences young people have during their education. Students are responsible for sourcing their own work experience placements as this search itself is a valuable life skill.

Our autumn Parent Information Evenings will provide further information and advice on how to help your child plan and secure both Work Shadowing and Work Experience placements.
