In August, we welcomed more than 100 of our new Year 7 students to our annual Summer School week. Students had a wonderful time making pizza, trying different sports, getting creative with art, maths and English activities and, most of all, making friends.
The students were glowingly positive about their week at Ashlyns: “Summer School has helped us to meet new people and feel happy about starting secondary school properly in September“. Their parents agreed, commenting on how much it supported transition between primary and secondary school and secured new friendships.
A number of our older students volunteered during the week, and were magnificent in helping our new students to feel at home in their new school.
“My child loved summer school; she enjoyed taking part in the fabulous range of activities on offer” (Year 6 parent)
“Having spent a week in school getting to know staff and other students, my child did not feel nervous about starting in September and her first week has gone better than we ever could have imagined!” (new Year 7 parent)
