Learning Resource Centre (LRC)

The LRC is a popular hub of our school community and supports learning and teaching across the curriculum.

The LRC’s aim is to develop a life-long love of reading through an exciting programme of author visits and workshops, literary themed events, trips to exhibitions and museums, book fairs, competitions, reading initiatives and involvement in literacy charity projects. We also participate in children’s literary awards including the Carnegie Medal, the Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize and the Excelsior Award.

Our team of two full-time Librarians are available to offer students help and guidance in finding books and resources to support their studies. The LRC has an extensive collection of popular fiction and non-fiction titles which have been chosen to reflect a variety of student interests and reading levels.

Students have the opportunity to volunteer to become Student Librarians during the course of the academic year and to join our popular Book Clubs.

What Can You Do in the LRC?

The LRC is a quiet working environment where all students can:

  • borrow, return or request books and DVDs
  • carry out research and study for coursework
  • use a computer and/or printer
  • purchase stationery
  • or simply read for interest and enjoyment.

When Can You Use the LRC?

The LRC is open daily from 8am to 4.30pm. It is available throughout the school day for class lessons, one-to-one tutorials and at morning break, lunchtime and after school for independent study. Year 7 students have timetabled lessons in the LRC to develop literacy and research skills.
