Welcome to Ashlyns Sixth Form
Our Sixth Form caters for a growing number of post-16 students and boasts a dedicated learning environment, where more than 200 Year 12 and 13 students currently enjoy the extensive facilities available to them, including:
- supervised computer room with study area
- study room
- common room and kitchen
- access to a well-stocked Learning Resource Centre.
Working in partnership
Through our partnership with Tring School, we offer a wide range of AS, A-level, Level 3 BTEC and Level 2 courses which deliver good results every year and meet the needs of all our learners. Most of our students move on to study at university — visit Where next? for more details — and we are hugely proud of their academic achievements.
Personalised mentoring
We recognise that extensive support and guidance is needed for the considerable transition from GCSE to A-level studies. All of our students benefit from a dedicated tutor who offers a personalised mentoring programme, meets with them on a daily basis and is available to assist with current and future planning as well as to discuss any concerns.
Sixth Form staff
- Our team of staff is committed to embedding the school ethos of ‘Achieve and Aspire’, maintain a high profile among the student population and is available to offer advice, support and guidance to all who require it. In addition to frequent monitoring and assessment and subsequent reporting to parents, the Sixth Form also benefits from the availability of excellent monitoring data. This enables us, together with heads of faculty and subject leaders, to target individual students and work towards achieving the best possible outcome for them. We work together in order to ensure that all students are well-motivated, focused and thriving on the academic rigours of sixth-form life.
Personal development
Academic excellence is at the heart of everything we do, but it is not the sole focus of Ashlyns Sixth Form: we are equally committed to the positive development of the whole person. We make sure that our students are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed either in higher education or the world of work. To this end, we offer extensive guidance and preparation for their applications to university, further education or jobs.
Contributing to the community
We delight in seeing our students develop into well-rounded, independent young adults who grow in confidence as they achieve their goals. There are many opportunities for them to enjoy activities beyond academic study and we expect them to take advantage of these, as well as become involved in our extensive community service programme, where they make a valued contribution to the school or local community.
We encourage our students to develop new interests, get involved with the school or local community as well as to learn new skills all of which are essential for their life beyond the Sixth Form. We invite a range of visiting speakers throughout the year to talk to students about wider social, political and cultural issues. Our enrichment programme is considerable and includes such diverse activities as the:
- Extended Project Qualification
- Duke of Edinburgh Award
- World Challenge
- Debating Society
- Sports Leader Award
- Ashlyns’ Project
- General Studies.
Sixth-form students have an important role to play in student voice and leadership, and can apply to become a house captain or school prefect; they are also able to make contributions through the Sixth-form executive or to nominate themselves for the position of Head Boy or Head Girl. For more information visit Student leadership and House system.
We set professional standards for everybody in Ashlyns Sixth Form and encourage all students to continue to develop a strong, positive work ethic and a responsible, self-reliant attitude. Our students leave Ashlyns equipped with the best possible education and pastoral guidance enabling them to meet the demands of a changing world.
