Course overview
AS: Year 1
Unit 1 Listening, reading and writing (70%)
Unit 2 Speaking (30%)
During the course you will develop your study of:
- media
- healthy living and lifestyle
- popular culture
- family and relationships.
A2: Year 2
Unit 3 Listening, reading and writing
Unit 4 Speaking
During the course you will develop your study of:
- the environment
- multicultural society
- contemporary social issues
- cultural topics.
Course assessment
Unit 1 is marked by the exam board and Unit 2 is conducted internally but marked by an external examiner.
Unit 1 70% of AS, 35% of A-level; 2 hour written examination; 110 marks.
Available January and June
Unit 2 30% of AS, 15% of A-level; 35 minutes speaking test (including 20 minutes preparation); 50 marks.
Available January and June
Unit 3 35% of A-level; 2 hours 30 minutes written examination; 110 marks.
Available June only
Unit 4 15% of A-level; 35 minutes speaking test (including 20 minutes preparation);
50 marks.
