Faculty of English
We are a forward-looking and stimulating faculty in our approaches to teaching and learning, development, and its love of literature and language. English is traditionally enjoyable and stimulating for its pupils, students and teachers, while Sociology and Film Studies have been taught in the faculty in more recent times, adding diversity in ways which are often complementary to English Language and English Literature.
Faculty members work closely together on the development of curriculum, record-keeping and assessment, sharing good practice and supporting one another as professional colleagues. Their programmes of work with individual classes, while informed by a common practice and philosophy of English teaching, as well as the requirements of the National Curriculum, may vary in topic and text according to the nature of the group being taught and the creative approach taken by the teacher.
English teaching benefits from in-class support from and excellent relationships with the Inclusion department.
Outside of the classroom, theatre visits, study trips, and in-school visiting speakers constitute a large dimension of extended opportunities which we have always offered and continue to do so.
